FAQs..

NOTE: all the below info is from the 2011 DGR, new info for 2012 will be posted soon.

1. When is it?
Saturday, October 29, 2011– start time: at 11:00am (registration from 9:00am to 10:30am)

Downtown Denver will be the scene for the course. Start and finish location will be at the Wynkoop Brewing Company at 1634 18th Street, in Lodo.

3. How long is the route?
It is a fun, scenic route that will take you past most of Denver's main downtown attractions. The course is a 5.6K that will be easy for the walkers and kids. It is a nice flat course going through the heart of Denver, along the scenic bike paths on the Platte and Cherry Creek.

6. I want to register as a GROUP.
It's easy......Just have your leader (or Silverback) call 720-524-0272 or send a note to saveagorilla@yahoo.com and register your group. There is a minimum requirement of 8 people to make a group and receive the 10% off of registration. (PLEASE SEE FUNDRAISING PROGRAM FOR GROUPS IN THE FUNDRAISING SECTION.)

7. How long will it take?
That depends on how fast you are. A 5.6K is exactly 3.5 miles and if you are running, it will probably take about 25-30 minutes. Last year's winning time was 17 minutes. For those walking the 5.6K, it should not take more than 1 hour.

8. Can I enter as a team or family?
Yes! You can create a team and enter as a theme gorilla team. For example: Hula Gorilla Team and you all wear hula skirts. There will be an award for the “The biggest team”. So, why not get your colleagues, sports team or even your real family to form a gorilla team? Last year our largest team was 40 gorillas!

9. How big are the gorilla suits?
We will have three suits available:
Medium: Fits most gorillas up to 5'7"
Large: Fits most gorillas up to 6'2"
Extra Large: Fits our Silverback up to 6"4"ish.

The suits might be a bit snug, but it all depends on the length of your torso.

Our suits for kids fit ages 7-9 or up to 4ft. tall. Please try not to squeeze your 12 year old who is 5ft into this suit. It looks really funny.

10. Can I keep my gorilla costume?
Yes! You will never have to worry about what to wear to a fancy dress party ever again! Plus, you are set for Halloween.

11. When will I get my costume?
The gorilla suits will be available for pick-up at our office during normal office hours (9-5pm). We will also have "Gorilla Gatherings" events at selected locations where you can collect your suits. The schedule will be posted in the "What up Now" section of the web site. If you live outside of Denver, we can mail your suit to you. Shipping and Handling will have to be charged. We have limited suits available, so register soon to secure your spot.

12. How can I get around the course?
BE CREATIVE! You can run, walk, ride your bike, roller blade, skateboard, unicycle, etc. We encourage everyone to take it easy, be safe and have fun. Please, nothing motorized will be allowed!

13. How much do I need to raise?
This year, all participants are required to select a fundraising commitment. 100% of these funds will go to support a project managed by the MGCF. When registering, you will be asked to to commit to either $10, $25, $50, $150 or $250. This commitment will not be charge when checking out during registration. MGCF will contact each person after the event to confirm if the commitment has been met or not. Additional charges will be made if commitments are not made. Ask your friends, neighbors, family and colleagues to help support you in this very unique event. Since we have lowered our entry fee, this fundraising commitment is now being applied.

14. What's up about the Silverback After Party?
We have blocked off the entire block between 17th and 18th street on Wynkoop. Ten of Denver most famous restaurants will be catering a fantastic lunch for all participants. Included will be a free beer ticket for a can of Silverback Pale Ale. A beer garden will also be available.
Two great bands will continue the day. "Marty Jones and the Great Unknowns" will kick off at 11:15am followed by "Hit List" to finish out the day with your favorite songs.

15. I might be able to go to Africa?
YES, we will be drawing on lucky person from this event who will qualify into the final round. One person has been selected from the Edmonton Gorilla Run and one will be selected from the Denver Gorilla Run and we will draw the Grand Prize Winner on November 11th.

16. How can we get extra tickets?
Good news.....We will be offering extra tickets for friends and family. Each ticket will get you to all the food, beer and will be able to participate in the trip drawing. Tickets are available through registration or call 720-524-0272 for more information.
